In 2003, Selmer launched the Reference 54 saxophone which is based on the feel and response of the Mark VI with modern intonation refinements. I must admit, I went into this adventure of playing the new Selmer Reference Series tenors with a pretty much made up mind. As times changed, so did Selmer’s models and the Mark VI evolved to the Mark VII, the Super Action 80, the Series II, and Series III. The Reference series currently proposes two tenor saxophone versions : Reference 36. Reference is a new Selmer Paris concept which combines acoustic or ergonomic characteristics of several famous previous Selmer Paris models with the qualities of today’s top design and manufacture.
